now is the autumn of our discontent

I’m telling you, Richard the Third had it all wrong. Forget the winter of our discontent. Our discontent came early this year.

Normally I love Autumn. But surely, everybody must feel that way. The leaves change colors, the weather turns cool, there’s something pleasant about bundling up in light sweaters and jackets, you begin to bake bread and make stews and soups.

But except for a few exceptions, this has been a perfectly miserable Autumn. Nothing but rain and drab, cloudy days. The trees, for the most part, have gone from green to brown (or leafless) with almost no transition. It’s as if Autumn tried…but not very hard. Then it just gave up and decided to go inside and watch television.

Of course, the few good days were pretty damned good.
