yellow building by the tracks

I’m always curious about the sorts of buildings you find along railroad tracks. Some of them are clearly there because of the tracks–like the grain elevators or scrap metal yards. Others seem entirely unrelated to the railroad in their present incarnation. The yellow building is some sort of consignment shop.

But what was it when it was first built? What was its original purpose? Why was it built beside the tracks?
