One of the things that I love about the Midwest is that you can see weather systems develop and subside. If you’re out in the country, you can see radically different types of weather at either horizon – sunshine over here, rain over there. You can watch the clouds roil or dissipate, you can see the shadows of clouds as the glide over the terrain, and you get a real sense of just how astonishing a cloud really is.

    This kind of view is what pulls me deeper and deeper into the back country roads of the Midwest.
